Jürgen Klopp, who in the past had criticized the spending power of Man City, talked about the money that his former club spent in the summer as they splashed out over 600 million dollars. The legendary head coach of Liverpool reveals that he would “never, ever” have asked for that kind of money from the directors during his tenure at Anfield.
The German head coach won both the Premier League and the Champions League during his 9 seasons with the Reds. He would have lifted even more trophies if it weren’t for the Sky Blues and Pep Guardiola during that time, as Manchester City outspent him by a lot during his time at Anfield.
However, now Liverpool is the team that spends the most in the league, and Klopp talked about that: “I didn’t know that it was possible. Nobody told me that I could spend that kind of money. We had a few huge deals during my last year with the Reds, but despite that, I never imagined that such a sum could be available for a new player. It was not possible during my time as manager, but it’s not an issue.”
Jürgen Klopp revealed he turned down Man United before joining Liverpool FC in 2016… 👀
