The 27-year-old Kyrgios underwent knee surgery in January this year, and while his recovery initially seemed to be going well, it now appears that he has not fully healed in time for the upcoming tournaments.
Kyrgios is currently No. 19 in the ATP rankings but could see that number fall at the end of the Sunshine Double in Indian Wells and Miami.
The Australian will drop a total of 270 points across both tournaments.
He reached the quarterfinals (180 points) at the Indian Wells Masters last year, eventually losing to Rafael Nadal, and bowed out in the Round of 16 (90 points) in Miami with a loss to Jannik Sinner.
