Lionel Messi will win the Ballon d’Or for the eighth time in his career. The 36-year-old Argentine was informed yesterday by France Football magazine, which presents the biggest individual award in the most popular sport.
The news was revealed by Messi’s close family friend – Alessandro Dossetti, who has been part of the forward’s entourage for years and even in recent months lives in Miami to be close to the Argentine.
“Official! Leo wins the Ballon d’Or for 2023. The eighth Ballon d’Or is certainly his possession. He was told the news today,” Dossetti wrote in a story posted on his Instagram account.

“France Football” announced in September the names of the 30 nominees for the Ballon d’Or. The official award ceremony will take place on October 30 at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris.
Messi’s eighth Ballon d’Or award will be in recognition of his World Cup 2022 title win. He was also named the tournament’s best player at the time.
