Official announcement is yet to be made, but it is expected to be due later on Wednesday.
His departure is directly connected with the investment of Sir Jim Ratcliffe, whose Ineos Sport is buying 25 percent stake at Old Trafford.
Arnold was the chief executive since February 2022, succeeding long-term Ed Woodward, who was at this position for almost a decade.
Patrick Stewart, United’s general counsel, will step in as the interim CEO before a new one is chosen.
Arnold is among 12 board members, who have to ratify the upcoming minority stake from Ratcliffe even tough he is stepping down.
The upcoming bid is expected to occur next week, when Ratcliffe will secure the desired 25%.
