Manchester United have parted ways with manager Erik ten Hag after a disappointing start to the season, capped by a 2-1 loss to West Ham. The defeat left United sitting 14th in the Premier League table, with only three wins from nine games, and struggling in Europe as well, ranking 21st out of 36 in the Europa League after drawing their first three group-stage matches.

Ten Hag’s tenure, which showed promise with an FA Cup victory over Manchester City just months ago, ultimately fell short due to United’s poor league and European form. The club’s board informed him of the decision on Monday morning, less than a day after the West Ham loss. United had initially extended Ten Hag’s contract by one year in May, but early results this season prompted a change.
Ruud van Nistelrooy, who joined United as Ten Hag’s assistant last summer, will step in as interim manager while the club searches for a permanent replacement.
