Argentina goalkeeper Emi Martínez claimed he “wasn’t ready to go home” after saving his nation in a penalty shootout vs. Ecuador a few hours ago in the Copa América ¼ final.
Despite Argentina captain Leo Messi’s penalty miss, the World Cup champions advanced thanks to the Aston Villa goalkeeper, who saved 2 penalties in the shootout after a 1-1 draw.
“I dive 500 times daily in every training session to be able to do that,” Emiliano shared with the media after the victory. “I prepare for this, and I always try to be at my best level to give everything for Argentina.”
Martinez added that he was proud of his performance and that he had told his teammates that he was not ready to leave them and the tournament. Despite the fact that Argentina won the World Cup and is the reigning champ of Copa America, Emiliano believes that they must continue to be hungry and win more trophies.
