It was a superb performance from star player Luka Doncic as he netted 39 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists for a triple-double, which puts him just one shy of LeBron James in the All-time stats.
“We all know who he is, what he’s doing in his 21st year in the NBA, which is unbelievable,” Doncic said. “It means a lot.”
Spurs were without their No.1 Draft pick Victor Wembanyama, who injured his ankle in warm-up. The 19-year-old wanted to play, but coach Gregg Popovich held his star as a precaution.
“If it was a playoff game, I probably would have played him,” Popovich said. “He’s not happy about it, but I would rather err on the conservative side since it’s the same ankle that he just got a time limitation on.”
San Antonio are not faring any better after stopping the worst run of games with 18 defeats. They are now 4 losses in a row.
