Hours after earning his first All-Star Game selection, Tyrese Maxey delivered a stellar performance, scoring a career-high 51 points and leading the Philadelphia 76ers to a 127-124 victory over the Utah Jazz on Thursday night. Despite the absence of star center Joel Embiid, who is sidelined with an injured lateral meniscus in his left knee, Maxey’s outstanding display propelled the 76ers to success.
Maxey, who had missed three games due to a sprained left ankle, surpassed his previous career high of 50 points, set on November 12 against Indiana, by sinking two crucial free throws with 4.1 seconds remaining. Embiid’s injury was revealed through an MRI, indicating that he will be sidelined for an extended period.
Tobias Harris contributed 28 points, and Kelly Oubre Jr. added 16 for Philadelphia. The 76ers wrapped up their longest road trip of the season with a 1-4 record.
Maxey’s remarkable performance included shooting 17 of 27 from the field, making 7 of 9 three-poInters, and converting 10 of 11 free throws. He became the first 76er to achieve at least seven 2-point field goals, seven 3-poInters, and seven free throws in a single game.
On the opposing side, Lauri Markkanen scored 28 points, with 14 coming in the fourth quarter, and Collin Sexton added 22 for the struggling Utah Jazz, who have now lost three consecutive games.
