The all-Russian 1/4-final was played in critical weather conditions

Daniil Medvedev played perhaps his strongest match yet at this year’s US Open and for the seventh time in his career he defeated his good friend Andrey Rublev, getting himself a place in the final four of the tournament in New York.

The 2021 US Open champion displayed impressive tennis throughout almost the entirety of the Russian Derby, with his significantly better mental fortitude at the crucial moments a major factor in his success, and he prevailed over his daughter’s godfather in straight sets – 6:4 6:3 6:4.

After recovering a passive break in each of them, spending 2 hours and 48 minutes on the court he got the win under the heat in New York. Medvedev multiple times said the conditions are difficult and he was quick to cool himself down in every possible moment.

The world No. 3 broke Rublev’s big hope to qualify for his debut Grand Slam semifinal, but for the ninth time in his career he was defeated within a step of the top 4 in a Grand Slam. Medvedev will meet the winner between Alexander Zverev and the defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in the battle for the spot in the final.
