Almost one year after Lionel Messi lifted the World Cup with Argentina, the Inter Miami star recalled the road to the title in Qatar.
“I had difficult moments. My family and the people who love me, too. The critics in Argentina were quite unfair to a generation of players and said quite bad things about me. I’m not bad-tempered. I feel it as a triumph for me that I changed this situation and won over all the people in Argentina. Today, 95% or 100% of Argentinians love me, and that’s a beautiful feeling,” Messi said.
He made his debut for Argentina in 2005, but the first major trophy did not come until 2021, when he won the Copa America after beating Brazil in the final.
“Everyone dreams of big things, and the biggest thing is to be a world champion with your national team. I was lucky enough to achieve everything at club level with Barcelona and as individual trophies. That was the only thing I was missing. There are very few players who can say they have accomplished it all. Thanks to God, I am one of them,” Messi added.
