The Dutch national team could face Austria in the next round in a remake of their group stage encounter

Cody Gakpo continued his impressive form at Euro 2024, scoring his third goal of the tournament to help the Netherlands secure a 3-0 victory over Romania in Munich. This win propelled Ronald Koeman’s team to the quarter-finals of the competition for the first time since 2008.

Gakpo opened the scoring in the first half, giving the Dutch a well-deserved lead. The Liverpool forward then showcased his playmaking abilities by assisting substitute Donyell Malen for a tap-in goal late in the match, doubling the Netherlands’ advantage.

In the dying moments of the game, as Romania pushed for a consolation goal, Borussia Dortmund’s Malen capitalized on a counter-attack to score his second goal of the match with a superb solo run, sealing the victory for the Netherlands.

The Dutch team dominated the match, creating numerous chances and controlling the game despite facing some pressure from Edward Iordanescu’s Romanian side. This strong performance will boost their confidence as they prepare to face either Turkey or Austria in the quarter-finals in Berlin on Saturday.
