It was Eddie Howe’s side first game since Sandro Tonali’s 10-month ban for gambling allegations and the Magpies certainly had the initiative for the most part, but were unable to convert it.
Callum Wilson opened the scoring in the 22nd minutes to give the visitors an early lead.
However, Gary O’Neil men fought back and they were on equal terms just before the break thanks to a fine effort from Mario Lemina.
Wilson restored the lead from the penalty spot in stoppage time in the first half. Newcastle seemed in control from then on, but a cool finish from Hwang Hee-chan made it 2-2 and secured the point for the home team.
Newcastle remain 6th with 17 points, while Wolves jump up to 12th with 12 points.
