Nico Williams secured a big salary for himself by inking a massive deal extension at the Basque club and turning down Barca.
Nico has signed a contract for 10 seasons with Athletic Club and will have a deal with the team until 2035. His new salary is drastically higher, and his release clause is now over 95 million euros – an increase from his 60 million euros clause until now.
The Spaniard was wanted by some of the biggest clubs in Europe, like Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Barcelona, but in the end, his decision was to continue playing for Bilbao.

Nico is now the highest-paid footballer in the Basque club as he will earn more now than his brother, Inaki Williams, and Unai Simon.
Williams will play in the Champions League next campaign with Athletic Bilbao and will continue to wear number 10. Nico will become the key figure for the Basque team in the upcoming seasons, and the team will be built around him.
Barcelona now must focus on other alternatives as they can’t match his new release clause without risking financial collapse.
