Cameron Norrie hopes of repeating the succes of the 2021 Indian Wells came to abrupt end as the British star was beaten by a solid performance from American Frances Tiafoe 6-4, 6-4.
Norrie was well below his usual standarts and made 28 errors throughout the match as his American opponent took full advantage of the World No.10 rustiness.
“I’m disappointed,” Norrie said after the game. “It was a big opportunity for me looking at the names left in the draw.”
“I felt I had a really good chance to win another Indian Wells but on the day today Frances was better than me, and that’s the sport.”
Tiafoe biggest career achievement is the semis in last-year eddition of the US open, but this is the first time he has reached the semi-finals of a Masters 1000 event, as he is preparing to meet Daniil Medvedev.
“It is big,” he said. “I’m super happy about today.
“I have been playing really well all week. I am happy being here.”
