Follow usLando Norris and Oscar Piastri are convinced that McLaren are capable of jumping not only Aston Martin, but Ferrari as well in the Constructors’ Championship.
The British team is currently trailing the Scuderia by 79 points, but with McLaren’s improved form that gap is vastly going down.
The Woking-based team endured a nightmare start to the 2023 campaign, failing to score a single point in the opening 2 races and being stuck at the bottom half for pretty much the entire first half.
However, huge updates since Austria have rejuvenated the team’s performance, making them a front-runner and even challenging Max Verstappen’s Red Bull for the win last time around in Qatar.
“It’s doable, I think so. A couple of races ago it was 70-something points to Aston.” Norris said.
“I think we’re doing a good job, not just in terms of pace, but we had a 1.8-second pit stop, which is pretty impressive from the guys. They’ve been working extremely hard, so to reward the whole team consistently is only more motivating and a bigger boost every weekend.”
Piastri pretty much backed Norris statement by saying:
“I think 79 points in what, five races and a couple of Sprints? It’s a big challenge, but yeah, we’ll give it a go. I think obviously the gap to Aston now is very achievable, but yeah, hopefully we can do it.”
