After an opening night 131-106 defeat against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Giannis Antetokounmpo demanded trust as the primary area that needs improvement for his new-look Miami Heat.
“The most important thing is to trust each other. When things don’t work out on the court, we must dig in. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen in this game,” Giannis shared. “The effort that we put in must be improved. It begins with me. I needed to be better at that. I set the tone.”
The lack of trust and waning effort was on display were on display against the Wolves as the team’s new duo of Anthony Edwards and LaMelo Ball were unstoppable from the 3-point line.
Anthony scored 45 points against the Heat on 9-of-17 shooting from 3, while LaMelo had 21 on 5-of-13 shooting. Timberwolves scored 21 3s as an organization.
Giannis finished with 35 points in his debut as the Greek player was very aggressive on offense and was on the free-throw line 14 times. But despite that, Antetokounmpo wasn’t happy with his performance.
