Sergio Perez openly admitted that his qualifying crash in Monaco made him lose confidence and that could explain his recent difficulties on Saturdays.
The Mexican recently put an end to a horrible streak of 5 races without a Q3 finish, but even then he didn’t impress in Hungary with a sloppy P9 on the grid.
The 33-year-old went into Monaco only 14 points adrift from his teammate, but difficult times and staggering form from Max Verstappen has led to his margin increasing to monumental 110 points.
Asked about his issues in the press conference, Perez replied:
“I think certainly after Monaco, I lost some confidence because the way my crash happened, I did lose a bit of confidence with the car, and that put me back.”
“I have my psychology and that’s something I work on. Other than that, it’s just how the sport is. You have good moments, bad moments, but always when you are at Red Bull, the pressure is a lot higher in that regard.”
