The Phillies have reached an agreement with right-hander Zack Wheeler on a three-year extension, ensuring the ace will remain with Philadelphia through the 2027 season. While financial details were not disclosed on Monday, various sources reported that the extension is valued at $126 million, making it the highest-ever deal in terms of average annual value.
At 33 years old, Wheeler is slated to earn $23.5 million in the current season, marking the final year of the five-year contract he inked with the Phillies in December 2019. The extension is set to take effect in 2025. In the previous season, Wheeler posted a record of 13-6 with a 3.61 ERA and 212 strikeouts in 32 starts.
