Late rally gives Atlanta the edge

The Atlanta Braves came out on top against the Philadelphia Phillies by the slightest of margins 5-4 in a hard-fought game to draw the NL Division Series at 1-1 on Monday night.

It was a spectacular turnaround as the Braves were trailing by four-run deficit  into the 6th inning, when Travis d’Arnaud and Austin Riley hit two-run homers to turn the game on its head.

“It was really emotional, especially the way we came back,” d’Arnaud said. “That was one of my favorite postseason games ever.”

The 34-year-old reduced Atlanta’s arrears to 4-3 in the 7th with his shot into the left-field seats. Riley provided the second, driving a 3-2 pitch from Jeff Hoffman (0-1) into the Phillies bullpen with two outs in the eighth to put the Braves ahead for the first time in the best-of-five series.

“I just have faith in those guys,” Braves manager Brian Snitker said. “You know what? They give you a hard 27 (outs). … They’re never going to stop fighting in the batter’s box.”

Game 3 is on Wednesday and is all to play for in the series.
