Las Vegas rookie QB threw a touchdown pass in his debut.

Fernando Mendoza’s preseason debut for the Las Vegas Raiders was successful.

In Las Vegas’ 27-14 defeat against the Cardinals, Fernando had moments when he looked like a young footballer still adjusting to the league’s speed. And periods when the rookie showed why the Raiders trust the Heisman Trophy winner to be the future face of the team.

His manager Klint Kubiak’s verdict is that the rookie looked like someone who has made significant strides in his development.

“I saw an experienced footballer,” the Raiders head coach shared. “He just needs to work hard and continue to get better.”

The Las Vegas quarterback completed 10 of 16 passes for 97 yards and a TD during 4 drives. Mendoza is the 1st overall selection to throw a TD pass in his preseason debut since Baker Mayfield 8 years ago.

“This match showed me that I still have to improve a lot,” admitted Fernando after the game. “I will without a doubt watch a replay of the match. I have nothing else on my mind to do after getting home.”
