Premier League clubs have set a new record for the total sum spent on transfers during the summer window. According to financial services company Deloitte, the top 20 teams paid a total of £2.36bn for new players. That’s 440 million more than last summer, when they also broke the record by 1.92 billion. Yesterday alone, when it was the last day of the summer transfer window, the total sum spent was 255 million pounds.
All of this means that when the money to be spent over the winter is added in, the 2023/24 season will be a record-breaking transfer season, as it will certainly surpass the £2.73 billion figure calculated in the previous campaign.
As expected, Premier League teams completed nearly half of all transactions in Europe’s top five leagues. The exact percentage is 48%. Over 13 of the Premier League clubs have passed the £50m mark for new players.
English teams received 550 million pounds from outgoing transfers to other clubs.
