Emma (21) is 1 of 4 Grand Slam champs given such an exemption for the tournament on grass.
Japan’s Naomi Osaka, Denmark’s Caroline Wozniacki, and Germany’s Angelique Kerber, who secured the title on grass in 2018, have also been given wildcards.
With the wildcards the players start directly from the main draw despite their ranking. Emma is still on the comeback trail after missing most of the past campaign – including the Grand Slam in London – after wrist and ankle procedures and now is ranked 165th in the world.
Naomi, Caroline, and Angelique all returned to competitive tennis in 2023 after giving birth.
All 7 of the initial wildcards for the men’s singles have been given to British participants. Liam Broady, who advanced to the 3rd round in each of last 2 years, is the player with the most expectations.
