Kreider erased Carolina’s 3-1 lead entering the 3rd period. The go-ahead goal came at the 15:41 mark. That finally allowed New York to put away Carolina, who had triumphed in 2 consecutive after trailing 3-0 after the 1st 3 matches from the series. The Hurricanes seemed like they would force a Game 7 after the 1st 2 periods but couldn’t keep Chris and the NHL franchise from the Big Apple in the final period.
Barclay Goodrow notched an empty-net goal in the final minute, and New York advanced to the East Conference Final where they will play against the Bruins or Panthers, with Florida leading that matchup 3-2.
Igor Shesterkin stopped 33 shots for the Rangers.
