“Amancio Amaro has passed away at the age of 83,” the club said in a statement. “He will be remembered by all Madridistas and by all football fans as one of the great legends of this sport.”
Amancio, who played for the Spanish giants between 1962 and 1976, won nine league titles and a European Cup.
He scored 155 goals in 471 games for Real and also helped Spain to a European title in 1964.
