Cristiano Ronaldo found himself under scrutiny after what seemed to be an offensive gesture following Al Nassr’s thrilling 3-2 victory over Al Shabab in the Saudi Pro League on Sunday. The Portuguese forward had opened the scoring with a 21st-minute penalty, but it took a late goal from Brazilian Talisca, who netted twice, to secure the win with just four minutes remaining.
After the final whistle, social media videos surfaced showing Ronaldo cupping his ear and repeatedly pumping his hand forward in front of his pelvic area. The actions appeared to be directed at Al Shabab supporters, with background chants of “Messi,” referencing Ronaldo’s long-term football rival from Argentina.
While the incident was not captured by television cameras, some Saudi pundits suggested that Ronaldo should face sanctions. Although there has been no official response, Saudi newspaper Asharq al-Awsat reported that the national football federation (SAFF) had initiated an investigation into the matter.

Prominent Saudi writer and television host Waleed Al Farraj expressed his views on social media, stating, “The disciplinary committee is facing the biggest test. We will wait and see. Everything has its limits, no matter how famous you are. This is how the major leagues are.” Al Nassr, Ronaldo’s team, was not immediately available for comment.
This is not the first time the 39-year-old Ronaldo has faced criticism for his on-field behavior. In April of the previous year, he appeared to make a similar gesture after a league game against Al Hilal, which Al Nassr lost 2-0. Earlier this month, during the Riyadh Season Cup final, Ronaldo picked up an Al Hilal scarf thrown at him from the stands, placed it in his shorts, and then discarded it as he walked towards the tunnel after Al Nassr’s 2-0 loss.
