Holger Rune has reunited with his former coach Patrick Mouratoglou, ending his partnership with Boris Becker and Severin Luthi after a disappointing Australian Open last month. Rune initially hired Becker in October and later added Luthi to his coaching team for the 2024 season. However, both coaches departed after Rune’s unexpected loss to French wild card Arthur Cazaux in the second round at Melbourne Park.
The 20-year-old Dane had previously worked with Mouratoglou and achieved significant success under his guidance, including winning the 2022 Paris Masters by defeating world number one Novak Djokovic in the final. Rune shared his thoughts on social media, emphasizing the importance of trying different approaches to discover what works best for him. He expressed confidence in Mouratoglou’s ability to help him achieve his goals.
Mouratoglou, excited about the reunion, spoke about his long-standing belief in Rune’s potential, dating back to when Rune was just 13 years old. He shared his high aspirations for Rune and described the renewed partnership as the beginning of a new adventure. Both Rune and Mouratoglou are looking forward to upcoming challenges, including competitions in Acapulco, Indian Wells, and Miami.
