Aryna Sabalenka and Karolina Muchova will feature in the Fench Open 1/2 finals for the first time in their careers.
That became clear after both defeated their last 8 opponents in straight sets on Tuesday.
The second-seeded Sabalenka defeated Elina Svitolina 6-4, 6-4 and will face the unseeded Muchova, who came out on top against the 2021 runner-up Anastasia Pavlychenkova 7-5, 6-2.
Sabalenka made 37 unforced errors, but still managed to prevail due to her aggressive and highly risky style of play. The match ended in a controversy as Svitolina was booed off by the French crowd, when she refused to shake Sabalenka’s hand.
Muchova overpowered Pavlychenkova, who seemed tired after her last round, which lasted for over 3 hours. That gave Muchova the edge and she quickly seized control of the match and eventually advanced to the semis, her second in Grand Slams after achieving that feat at the 2021 Australian Open.
