Seven people were killed in a crash on a highway in Brazil’s Minas Gerais state early Sunday, authorities said. The bus was driving fans of the Corinthians football club who were returning from a match against Cruzeiro in Belo Horizonte.
Passengers said 43 people were in the vehicle when the brakes failed around 2:50 a.m. The bus crashed and rolled down a hill. Authorities said 36 people were injured, 27 of them were taken to hospitals, and one was in serious but non-life-threatening condition.
Corinthians expressed its sympathy to the families of the victims. Several other Brazilian football clubs also offered their condolences. President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who is a Corinthians fan, offered his condolences to the families and friends of the victims.

“I hope for a quick recovery of the injured and an investigation into the causes of the accident. We need calmness and vehicles in good condition on the roads because there is no way to recover the lives lost,” Lula wrote on social media.
