Everything went smoothly for the Russian in the 1st two sets as he won 7-5 in the 1st set and then 6-0 in the 2nd set.
After that, however, the Italian did what very few people thought was possible and won the clash. Sonego won 6-3 in the 3rd set and the most competitive one 4th after a tiebreak – 7-6 (5).
Lorenzo won the 5th set after breaking Rublev’s serve when the Russian served to make it 4-4 and then closed the match with a 6-3 victory in the final set.
The Italian will face world number 11 Karen Khachanov in the 1/8 finals at the French Open.
