England manager Gareth Southgate was extremely pleased with the 7-0 win against North Macedonia in the Euro 2024 qualifiers. He did not fail to praise his players after the difficult seasons they’ve had.
“The players have shown the attitude and willingness to fight even at the end of this monster season and that is impressive. They could have made a lot of excuses not to play that way, but they didn’t. Some guys came after the most important week of their lives, others came back from the beaches and could approach casually. But today it was clear what we are building here,” Southgate said.
“It’s gratifying. The atmosphere in the stadium was incredible and it gave us momentum even before the start of the game. It was a brilliant evening of football – the weather was good, the pitch immaculate, the crowd excited. What I liked most was that every time we lost the ball, we showed a great desire to win it back. This was the basis of our good performance. The quality of the game was high and we were merciless in front of the goal,” he added.
