Quarterback Stetson Bennett is set to join the Los Angeles Rams for offseason workouts, announced general manager Les Snead on Monday.
Bennett, known for leading Georgia to two national championships, was selected by the Rams in the fourth round of the 2023 draft. However, he departed from the team during preseason and spent the subsequent season on the reserve/non-football illness list.
Coach Sean McVay previously stated that the Rams would reach out to Bennett, 26, “at the appropriate time” to evaluate if he would be a good fit. “Those will be conversations that we will have. And then I think once we have a better idea of what we’ll do with that, then that will give clarity,” McVay remarked.
The reasons behind Bennett’s departure from the team were never disclosed by either party, with McVay simply stating that the issue was “bigger than” football.
With Matthew Stafford firmly established as the Rams’ starting quarterback, and veteran Jimmy Garoppolo signed as his backup earlier this month, Bennett’s role within the team remains to be seen.
