Xavi: ‘Girona’s defeat tells the story of our campaign’

Xavi Hernández claimed today after the disappointing 4-2 loss at Girona that it was emblematic of Barca’s shortcomings this campaign, but added that his players have been the better club in their 4 matches vs. their Catalan opponent and Los Blancos.

Girona’s victory at Montilivi secured their place in the UCL for the 1^st time in their history, while also Real Madrid were crowned LaLiga champs after today’s result with 4 matches until the end of the season.

Xavi’s side, however, dropped to 3^rd place in the league, below Girona, and with a 2^nd-position finish and a place in next campaign’s Spanish Super Cup, now not depending on them.

“I’m not happy because we have seen both sides of the coin in 1 match,” Barcelona’s head coach shared with the media after the defeat.

“I was proud of my players after the 1^st 45 minutes because we pressed well and dominated Girona, which is not easy, perhaps until the hour mark. From there, it’s the summary of our campaign.”
