Birmingham endured their worst run of form in the Championship, collecting only 10 points from possible 45 during Rooney’s tenure. Rooney managed to notch only 2 wins in 15 games.
The futures of fellow staff members Ashley Cole, John O’Shea, and Pete Shuttleworth was being resolved this on Tuesday morning.
The news come after the team recent 3-0 defeat to Leeds, after which Rooney vowed to keep on fighting, but staff members were called during Tuesday’s practice session to announce his sacking.
The 38-year-old leaves the club only 6 points off relegation, despite inheriting them from sixth, when being appointed in October.
“I would like to thank Tom Wagner, Tom Brady and Garry Cook for the opportunity to manage Birmingham City FC and the support they all gave me during my short period with the club.” he said in a statement.
