Clayton Keller scored two goals, Karel Vejmelka had 30 saves in his fourth straight start for Arizona

Clayton Keller was left alone in the right-wing circle and fired his second goal as the Arizona Coyotes held on to beat the New York Islanders 5-4 at the Mullett Arena on Friday night.

Earlier in the third period, Travis Boyd walked in along the goal line and was able to stuff his own rebound under Islanders’ goaltender Ilya Sorokin and in.

“I just took it to the blue paint and was able to smack in the rebound,” Boyd said. “It was a big one for me. Going through a little cold streak, it is always nice to get one. Hopefully I can get on a little bit of a roll.”

Shayne Gostisbehere and Nick Bjugstad also scored for the Coyotes, who have won four straight home games — three since concluding a 14-game, 33-day road trip last week.

Nick Schmaltz had three assists and Jakob Chychrun added two, and Karel Vejmelka had 30 saves in his fourth straight start.

Mathew Barzal had a goal and an assist, and Sebastian Aho, Anthony Beauvillier and Noah Dobson also scored for the Islanders, who are 1-3-1 in their last five. Oliver Wahlstrom had two assists Ilya Sorokin finished with 24 saves.

“Giving up that goal shifted momentum a little bit,” Islanders coach Lane Lambert said. “We have to be better. We have to find a way to get it back.

“There are certain points and certain moments the momentum swings, whether it be us or somebody else, has a problem trouble getting it stopped immediately, which has to happen.”

Islanders will be at Vegas on Saturday night for the second of a five-game trip while the Coyotes host Buffalo on Saturday night in the second of a three-game homestand.
