Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou confirmed the news in Wednesday’s press conference, scheduled for the Brighton match.
The World Cup winner underwent a scan, which showed the seriousness of the injury.
“No, no. He’s no good. He’s had a scan, so he’ll be out for four or five weeks.” Postecoglou said.
“Everyone else got through it okay. There’s a few sore bodies there but we’ve had a, sort of, easier training week, last few days anyway, but everyone else is okay.”
The news is a huge blow for Tottenham, who already have a huge list of injuries ahead of them. Their latest setback – Romero – is expected to return some time in early February.
