Despite a challenging Premier League season that has left Chelsea trailing by 13 points from the final Champions League qualifying spot, midfielder Enzo Fernandez believes a shift in attitude has reignited hope for securing a spot in Europe’s elite club competition next season.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side faced setbacks with consecutive defeats to Liverpool and Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier this month. However, a recent FA Cup victory over Aston Villa and a 3-1 league win against Crystal Palace on Monday have injected renewed confidence. Currently placed 10th in the league, Chelsea sits 13 points adrift of fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.
In an interview with ESPN published on Tuesday, Argentine international Fernandez expressed the significance of the Crystal Palace victory, stating, “The victory at Crystal Palace is worth a lot to us. Last week we defeated Aston Villa in the FA Cup.” He emphasized the team’s changing attitude, which has become a source of confidence for the challenges ahead.
Acknowledging the season’s ups and downs, Fernandez highlighted the team’s commitment to improvement, saying, “But there is a long way to go; we have trust in our work, in a new team, and day by day, we are improving to be able to meet the objective. We want to play in the Champions League next year.”
Chelsea’s upcoming fixtures include a league encounter with Manchester City and a clash against Liverpool in the League Cup final.
