The 32-year-old join the Catalans as a free transfer this summer after captaining Manchester City to a historic Treble.
However, an extraordinary turn of events may see the midfielder’s spell at the Nou Camp end before it has really started.
A clause in his contract states that if the player is not registered by Sunday, he could opt to leave the club for free.
On top of that, the team will be obliged to pay him even if he leaves for free.
Gundogan stated that it was a “dream move” coming to Barcelona and he would wish the Catalans solve their issues.
The German international also heaped praise on his new coach Xavi by saying:
“The first moment we talked to each other, I just felt it was right to come here, join the club and have the opportunity to prove myself at a different club and a different country.”
“I was close to coming here two times earlier but it was not meant to be. Now it is the time.”
