The striker ends England's 25-year Ballon d'Or wait.

Harry Kane has become the 1st English footballer to be awarded the Ballon d’Or since Michael Owen in 2001, after being selected as the world’s best player at a ceremony in London.

The Bavarian side’s 33-year-old forward is the 5th Englishman to win in total, with Stanley Matthews (1956), Bobby Charlton (1966) and Kevin Keegan (1978 and 1979) the others.

Harry netted 61 goals in 51 games in the past campaign, the most a Bayern footballer has ever scored in 1 season. If we add his goals with the national team, Kane had 73 goals + 8 assists in 65 games.

Only 1 footballer at a club in Europe’s top 5 leagues has ever scored more goals in a campaign, and that was Leo Messi in 2011-12.

But Kane won the Ballon d’Or despite not lifting either of football’s biggest prizes in the past campaign, having lost in both the World Cup and Champions League ½ finals.

Harry becomes the 1st Bayern Munich footballer to secure this award since Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in 1981.

However, the English forward finished with 2 trophies last campaign – a double in Germany.
