The Reds' supporters voiced their disapproval as it was revealed that the official was born just 5 miles away from Etihad

Liverpool expressed their anger at the Premier League for appointing Chris Kavanagh as match official for the upcoming crunch clash with rivals Manchester City.

The Reds have a very positive record with Kavanagh as they have won 13 of their 15 games, in which he has officiated.

But the Reds’ supporters were left livid as it was revealed that Kavanagh’s hometown is just 5 miles away from the Etihad Stadium.

Others, however, were quick to respond that the Etihad wasn’t even around, when Kavanagh was born as City played at Maine Road Stadium until 2003.

Some Liverpool fans also pointed out the solid record the Anfield team has under the wing of Kavanagh with two wins and two games this season. City, however, lost to Newcastle 1-0 in the Carabao Cup, while the 38-year-old was officiating.
