Mbappe comments decision to hide Ceuta support shirt

Real Madrid goal scorer Kylian Mbappe has talked about the growing backlash regarding his decision to obscure a support T-shirt for the city of Ceuta. The superstar, alongside teammates Vini Jr and Ibrahima Konate, faced significant criticism after partially covering the message during the pre-match ceremonies of Los Blancos’ 3-2 win against Elche.

Ahead of the game vs. Elche, the hosts and the Royal club agreed to wear T-shirts displaying the message “We’re all from Ceuta”. The aim was to highlight the Spanish enclave’s humanitarian situation after a mass migration influx from Morocco this summer.

Despite the collective agreement, Kylian, Vini and Ibrahima drew intense scrutiny from the local media after they rolled the garments up to their chests during the pre-match presentation, deliberately obscuring the text.

Mbappe shared why he did that: “I want to be clear; it was a decision made by the clubs to wear the shirt. We footballers must wear it. The 1st thing I want to share is that I stand in full solidarity with Ceuta and all the victims, but I also want to acknowledge and show support for all the migrants who’ve lost their lives.”
