Zack Wheeler was the star of the show as he brilliantly struck out 8, with Jose Alvarado preserving Philadelphia’s lead with a crucial strikeout.
Wheeler allowed one run in 6 2/3 innings, overall, as Craig Kimbrel worked a scoreless ninth for the save. Nick Castellanos added an RBI double in the eighth inning to edge the Phillies one step closer to a desired match-up with Atlanta.
“We’ve got to get back after it this year, and it’s a different team,” manager Rob Thomson said. “I believe it’s a better team, to be honest with you.”
