Lindy (64) was dismissed by the New Jersey Devils after 61 matches this campaign. Ruff replaces Don Granato, whom Buffalo dismissed after 3 campaigns.
Ruff manager the franchise for 15 years from 1997 to 2013. He ranks 5th all-time and 2nd among active managers with 864 career regular-campaign victories for Buffalo, Dallas and New Jersey. His 935 combined victories in the regular-campaign and postseason are evened for 4th in NHL history.
“As I went through the appointing process, I realized swiftly that Lindy was the person to lead the team. Ruff has experience, a proven track record, can develop young players, and so much more,” claimed Sabres GM Kevyn Adams.
The general manager worked as an assistant coach under him in 2011-12 and during the 2012-13 campaign when Lindy was replaced by Ron Rolston.
Buffalo has been led by 6 different managers since Lindy was dismissed.
