Argentina player Leandro Paredes has been given a 10-game suspension for the role he played in the brawl after his country was defeated 1-0 by Spain in the 2026 World Cup final.
FIFA’s disciplinary committee has also handed his team-mate Nahuel Molina a 7-game ban.
The South American country has also been ordered to play their next 2 home games with 50% capacity, though 1 game of that sanction is suspended.
The football association of Argentina will also need to pay a fine of over 300,000 dollars for breaches of the FIFA disciplinary code relating to using a sports event for non-sporting demonstrations, team misconduct, and discriminatory chants and gestures by its fans.
After beating England 2-1 in the World Cup ½ final, a few Argentina footballers showed a banner claiming Argentine sovereignty over the Falkland Islands, a British overseas territory.
In July, FIFA hired a disciplinary and ethics prosecutor to assess what happened after the end of the World Cup final, when on-field clashes started between players from both nations after the final whistle.
