France head coach Didier Deschamps has confirmed forward Hugo Ekitike will miss the World Championship after sustaining a suspected ACL injury during Liverpool’s UCL loss against PSG at Anfield yesterday.
Ekitike left the pitch on a stretcher, and the Reds fear a long absence for the French striker, which could even rule him out for the beginning of next campaign.
Hugo went for scans today, and it is expected that they will confirm the extent of his problem.
“Ekitike sustained a serious injury in the Champions League match of his club yesterday. The severity of his problem will unfortunately prevent him from playing again in the current campaign and being part of the World Cup this summer,” shared Deschamps.
Hugo joined the club from Anfield in the past summer from Eintracht Frankfurt and has been 1 of their standout players in a difficult campaign for the Reds, with 17 goals and 6 assists in all tournaments.
