The Irishman was selected in Europe's 12-man team

Shane Lowry expressed his delight for his inclusion on Europe’s Ryder Cup team and stated that his place is right where it should be.

Encouraged by the news, the 36-year-old finished an impressive 3rd at the Irish Open, his first top 10 finish since February.

“I know I deserve to be there,” Lowry said.

“The people who knew what they were talking about know I deserve my place, so anyone else doesn’t really matter.”

There has been some criticism aimed at the Irishman as he was chosen ahead of Poland’s Adrian Meronk, who has won three events this year and has hit fine form recently.

But Lowry has shrugged all of those claims, stating he is the right man for the upcoming event.

The Europe team consists of Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Viktor Hovland, Tyrrell Hatton, Matt Fitzpatrick and Robert MacIntyre, as well as fellow wildcard picks Tommy Fleetwood, Sepp Straka, Justin Rose, Nicolai Hojgaard and Ludvig Aberg for the match against the United States at the Marco Simone course in Rome from 29 September to 1 October.
