Major League Baseball team owners voted unanimously to move the Oakland Athletics team to Las Vegas.
The move required a three-quarters vote of the owners, but among them there was no dissent, and they all supported the idea during the meeting in Arlington. For the past more than 20 years, the Oakland Athletics team has been trying to get a permit to build a new stadium to replace the “Oakland Coliseum”. However, the permit was not given and the owner of the team, John Fisher, had to look for an alternative way out.
The Athletics have played in Oakland since 1968, when they moved from Kansas City. In the last 56 years, the A’s have won four titles.
Today’s decision of the owners still does not mean the relocation is 100% sure, because Vegas has its own problems. The municipality is currently being sued by the Nevada State Teachers Union over its decision to allocate $380 million to the construction of AllGiant Stadium, home of the Las Vegas Raiders football team.
