German basketball national team qualified for the semifinals of the men’s FIBA World Cup in the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia.
In the third quarter-final match, the Germans prevailed over the debutant Latvia 81:79 (13:16, 23:18, 26:25, 19:20) and reached the final four for the first time since the world championship in 2002.
However, the Germans could have missed out on qualifying for the next stage as Davis Bertans had an open shot from the three-pointer with seconds to go, but his shot from a distance bounced off the ring and missed the target.
In the semi-finals, the German team, which is the only unbeaten team so far with six wins in six matches, will face the Olympic champion USA.
Franz Wagner was the top scorer for Germany with 16 points. Andreas Obst added 13 more and Moritz Wagner finished with 12 points.
