Two red cards and much drama in the Rome derby

Lazio won 1-0 against Roma in the “Derby della Capitale,” securing their spot in the semi-finals of the Italian Cup. The only goal at Stadio Olimpico came from a penalty, scored by Mattia Zaccagni.

The first half saw limited threats on both goals, although the Eagles were the more active team. In the 8th minute, the hosts claimed a penalty, but the appeal was dismissed by referee Daniele Orsato.

In the 48th minute, Matias Vensino forced Patricio to intervene, with the Portuguese goalkeeper deflecting the ball for a corner. Matteo Genduzi was brought down by Dejan Hause. Initially, Orsato did not point to the spot, but VAR intervention awarded Lazio a penalty, converted by Zaccagni.

In the 56th minute, the symbolic hosts came close to a second goal as Valentin Castellanos found himself in a good position in the penalty area, but Patricio once again made a crucial save.

In the 61st minute, the Wolves tested Christos Mandas for the first time, but the goalkeeper easily saved Lorenzo Pellegrini’s shot.

Three minutes before the end of regular time, Roma had a good chance as Andrea Belotti was found in the penalty area. He took a quick shot, but Christos Mandas made the save.

In the 6th minute of added time, Pedro received a second yellow card, resulting in a red card and four minutes later Azmoun was also sent off after horrendous tackle.
