British boxing promoter Frank Warren has revealed that the team of heavyweight boxer Daniel Dubois has lodged an official challenge with the World Boxing Association (WBA) over the outcome of the fight between the Briton and WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight champion Alexander Usyk.
In the fight, which took place on August 26th in Wroclaw, Poland, Usyk defeated Dubois by TKO in the ninth round, but Dubois’ team appealed the referee’s controversial decision in the fifth round regarding Dubois’ body shot. According to them, the blow was delivered according to the rules, but the referee considered that it was delivered below the belt and gave Usyk plenty of time to recover, after which he took control over the fight.
“I would like the WBA to make the right decision. I don’t think they will overturn the outcome of the fight. I want it to happen, but I don’t think they will,” Warren said in an interview. “Dubois deserves a rematch. Other people saw the same thing. Respected people in our business, neutral, not some haters. There’s plenty of video and pictures that can show where the punch was.
