Ilya Kharun also added to Canada’s medal tally by taking bronze, his second bronze of the Paris Games after the 200m butterfly.
Milak’s victory marks Hungary’s second gold medal in swimming at the Paris Games, following Hubert Kos’ triumph in the 200m backstroke. Despite being in fourth place at the halfway mark, Milak surged in the final meters to surpass Liendo, showcasing his strong finishing ability.
Milak’s achievement adds to his growing list of Olympic medals, bringing his total to four. His resilience and competitive spirit were on full display, especially after being previously outpaced by world record-holder Caeleb Dressel in the 100m at Tokyo and by the dominant Leon Marchand in the 200m in Paris.
